The current International Maritime Organisation Secretary-General Efthimios Mitropoulos, International Chamber of Shipping & International Shipping Federation Secretary General Peter Hincliffe and European Community Shipowners’ Associations Alfons Guinier were in the forefront to congratulate the newly elected Women’s International Shipping & Trading (WISTA) President Karin Orsel and new Excecutive Committee members on the excellent decision of the 220 WISTA members from 28 countries present at the WISTA INTERNATIONAL Conference held in Stockholm last week.
Orsel – in daily life CEO and owner of northern Netherlands-based Management Facilities Group and WISTA the Netherlands president – and her fellow WISTA Executive Committee (ExCo) members Oritsematosan edodo-emore (WISTA Nigeria), Kathy Haines (WISTA USA), Irene Lim (WISTA Singapore), Consuelo Rivero (WISTA Spain, Irene Rosberg (WISTA Denmark) and Nuvara Uslu Erdonmez (WISTA Turkey) are ready to professionalise the worldwide association even more.
To the current ExCo members minds, WISTA should reassess its position as out of the ordinary networking association in the world. “Since WISTA’s establishment in 1974, we have come a long way, thanks to all previous presidents and board members”, Orsel said in her presentation at the WISTA Conference in Stockholm, adding that all involved in the association should try to improve the organisation even more.
“Personally, I believe that our organisation will grow to approximately 2,500 members in 2020, and active in seven regions. That in itself will change the position Europe holds today. It will change, as will emerging regions in Asia, Africa and possibly the Middle East will do. Our aim should be growth, but not particularly in each and every country. Neighbouring countries should reach out to each other, for the benefit of a strengthened network, which WISTA already is.”
WISTA International and its National WISTA Associations (NWAs) focus is on good communication in-house and with its stakeholders, stepped up media professionalism and optimal use of social media and that of WISTA’s own up-to-date website.
