Training Marine Propulsion mod. 5

Date: 12 December & 13 December

Location: Zoetermeer (Netherlands)

Module 5: Matching Propulsion Engine and Propulsor

Aim
This module uses the knowledge gained in previous modules to discuss the basic matching problem and introduces concepts such as sea margin, engine margin and light running margin. The transformation of a ship’s resistance curve to the load curve, as experienced by the propulsion engines, is also discussed.

Subjects
Topics include:
• Criteria for proper matching
• Influence of type of propulsion machinery and propulsor on the chances of getting a good match
• Off-design conditions
• Calculation methods to evaluate off-design conditions
• Different approach for all conditions leading to a new operating point of the propeller versus conditions leading to a change of the drive characteristics
• Examples and calculations of different matching problems

Thanks to its international setting, the course offers companies in the maritime cluster an excellent opportunity to gain knowledge and to network with colleagues, clients and/or suppliers. This will enable them to position their company even better as a comaker in the shipbuilding process.

Target group and lecturers
This module is of interest to designers, engineers and sales engineers working with system integrators, engine transmission and propulsor manufacturers/representatives, electrical engineering firms, shipyards, navies, design offices and ship owners. HME organises the module ‘Matching Propulsion Engine and Propulsor’ in close cooperation with Delft University of Technology and Royal Netherlands Naval College. The trainers are the well known and respected Prof. Douwe Stapersma and ir. Peter de Vos.
