On 27 October 2011 the company called Exendis was put into liquidation. Exendis designed and developed converters for clients worldwide in the mobility, infrastructure, defence, renewable energy and agriculture markets. Alfen bv in Almere, a sister company of Eekels within the TBI concern, acquired a number of activities from Exendis after the company had gone into liquidation. Alfen took over products, employees and the intellectual property of products used in the rail market, defence, luxury yacht building and fast charge technology for electric cars. Eekels, for its part, acquired the luxury yachting activities from Alfen. More specifically, the shore converter and the energy storage converter systems, marketed using the brand name of MarPower.
By adding the MarPower systems from Exendis to its portfolio, Eekels has enhanced its position in the maritime market, particularly the luxury yacht market. Its existing specific knowledge of power electronics, especially drive systems, and its own service department will enable Eekels to continue to supply and service MarPower systems more than successfully. The MarPower systems are going to be incorporated into the Systems & Manufacture business unit.
