ASME certification opens up new territories for Bosch Rexroth
In December 2016 Bosch Rexroth, the leading company in drive and control solutions, gained the highest level of ASME (American Society of Mechanical Engineers) certification for its hydraulic piston accumulators. Covering U, U2 and U3 Stamps, it means Bosch Rexroth is one of few companies in the world capable of providing this certification for its hydraulic accumulators.
ASME Certification is a growing requirement for all pressure vessels, acting as a measure of quality and safety. ASME U represents certification of equipment up to 200 bar pressure, U2 up to 685 bar, while the highest level U3 is for unlimited pressure usually for special gas and high pressure applications. Accumulators and piston accumulators can fall into any category.
At the Bosch Rexroth manufacturing plant in Boxtel, the Netherlands, a new process for certification was implemented over the course of 2016 with the help of CIS GmbH (Consulting Inspection Services). Due to an already installed certification process e.g. Lloyds, DNV, CE, it involved minor modifications to the manufacturing process, design and materials used in accumulator production to bring them in line with ASME requirements. The final audit was carried out by an ASME team, involving an examination of the processes and a stress demonstration of an actual component.
By attaining ASME Certification, Bosch Rexroth can support customers requesting pressure vessels with this requirement. This is increasingly the case in the US, as well as Canadian and South Korean markets. Bosch Rexroth becomes one of only 30 companies worldwide, and the only company in the Netherlands to offer this qualification. More importantly, Bosch Rexroth is one of the few manufacturers of hydraulic systems in this elite group.
